The RYA has released the updated Portsmouth Yardstick (PY) numbers for 2026.
Reviewed annually, these numbers are published by the RYA at the Dinghy Show.The PY system ensures fair competition by allowing different classes of boats to race against each other, with results based on performance rather than raw speed.
Handicaps are calculated using the elapsed time in seconds, divided by the boat’s handicap, and then multiplied by 100—assuming all boats sail the same distance.
