This Saturday (9th August 2025) marked the first full day of Wanlip Sailing Club’s annual visit to Attenborough Sailing Club.
The main daytime event was WSC vs ASC team racing in the RS Visions. Each club put forward 3 teams of 2 boats (4 people per a team). Conditions were on the upper limits of what is possible to sail in with the forecast estimating winds of 25-30 mph.
There were 5 races before lunch break with Attenborough making a clean sweep in the first 4 and Wanlip taking there first victory in the 5th. Surplus to the chaos of team racing and high winds a few kit failures made the day more interesting. Snapped kickers, rudders that wouldn’t stay down and bent tiller extensions all added to the madness.
After lunch Wanlip got into the flow a little better and had 2 more wins in the remaining 4 races. The overall scoring was 6 – 3 with Attenborough taking the glory in the end.
Reviews on the day were mixed with some sailors claiming it was a great event and others maintaining it was pure terror from start to finish!
On behalf of everyone who competed, we’d like to express our thanks to the organisers who put in a lot of work upfront and during the event. It was an success overall, and many of the sailors hope that it runs again some time soon.
