Youth Improvers End Race Series With Party!

The last Youth Improvers Session for the juniors started with amazingly good wind, what some could say were the best weather conditions that the juniors had for the whole season! The regular juniors were joined by newbies from the course Matthew, Andrew and Aiden who all did extremely well considering the slightly blowy conditions; a difference from the steady wind they had on the August Sailing course.

Everyone got a great start, yet Martin, Iona and Jill powered away from the other sailors. Thomas and David stayed together for the majority of the duration of the race, followed closely by Lisa who did really well and Matthew, Andrew and Aiden also stayed together. Iona managed to slip away from Martin and Jill at the end, and crossed the finish line at top speed. Matthew and Andrew were coached to the finish line by Jill at the end of the race to help them improve their racing.

After the race, Molly and Ella joined the juniors to have a taster session out sailing while they all played games such as dodge ball and also practised starts for the junior racing. Hopefully they will join us next year.

The juniors then finished early on the water, so that it could continue with the party inside the clubhouse. Everyone helped themselves to the large quantity of party food and chilled out until it was awards time! Iona and Martin got their Stage 4, Jill got her Start Racing and Thomas and David got their Stage 3. It was a great end to a fantastic season of junior sailing!

It’s been a good year for the juniors with everybody improving with, only 1 point separating 2nd, 3rd and 4th. Keith did a great job in training us once again, his patience and knowledge have once again helped improve the ability of the juniors. Thank you to Bill Reid and Liz Ireland for covering the safety boat for us. Without the adult volunteers we would not be able to have the ASC Youth Improvers Sessions on Saturday afternoons. If you wish to volunteer your time and sailing knowledge please let us know.

It would be great to see more juniors out next year, if anybody has any suggestions or ideas on how to improve the ASC Youth’s please let us know.
