Wednesday Winter Traveller's Series

This coming Wednesday, 15th January, is the week you've all been waiting for.

We are going to visit (according to Camra - Campaign for Real Ale) one of the four best pubs in the country.

The Horse and Jockey in Stapleford has been voted by Camra members as the best pub in Nottingham, the best pub in Nottinghamshire and the best pub in the East Midlands and has gone forward to the final four pubs in the country.
The national judges have visited and we are just awaiting the outcome.
What we know is that a warm welcome awaits with a superb choice of 10 excellent real ales.

On TrentBarton bus routes i4 from Nottingham and Derby and the My15 from Long Eaton and Ilkeston. A bit awkward from Beeston and Chilwell but well worth the effort.

See you all there round about 20.30 hrs.

Wednesday Winter Traveller's Series

This coming Wednesday, 22nd January, we are heading east and are meeting in the Hand and Heart, 65-67 Derby Road, Nottingham NG1 5BA.

This Victorian fronted, with the rear built into one of Nottingham's iconic sandstone caves, was the Nottingham Camra Pub of The Year in 2012 and runner up in 2013, so we are assured of an exceedingly good pint, within a short distance of a host of bus, tram and rail routes.

See you roundabout 20.30 hrs.

Wednesday Winter Traveller's Series

After heading east last week, this coming Wednesday, 29th January, we are heading west and are meeting in the Hole in the Wall, Regent Street, Long Eaton NG10 1JX.

This traditional, dutch gable fronted, town centre local has won numerous awards over the years for the quality of its beer. Two regular beers of Nottingham EPA and Bass are augmented with a fine selection of guest beers and ciders.
The pub is situated a short walk from Long Eaton Green where Trent Barton Indigo, My15 and Skylink services all run extensive services.

We will be gathering close to 20.30 hrs and the 13th person there gets the round in - so be there early!!

Wednesday 12th February

This weeks venue will be the Boat Inn, Priory Street, Lenton, NG7 2NX, just off Abbey Street near Dunkirk flyover.

Most Bus routes in the country seem to go very close to here, so we expect a large turnout.
Despite the fact that there was several early starters last week 20.30 hrs is the official start time.

This week's venue will be The Victoria Hotel, Dovecote Lane, Beeston. There is a well worn path from most ASC members households down to the Vic, it's been a favoured watering hole for a good many years, if you don't know how to get there just ask another member.

An early heads up for the following week, Wednesday 26th Feb, we shall be joining other club members down at Attenborough Football/Cricket clubs newly refurbished pavilion for the Jim Saltonstall talk. See you all there.

Wednesday 5th March 2014
The nights are starting to draw out at long last and as we look forward to sailing again on a Wednesday nights we have just a few more weeks for the successful Winter Wednesday Traveller's Series to run.
So for this week we have decided to venture into Nottingham again but only as far as Canning Circus. We shall be meeting in the Organ Grinder, 21 Alfreton Road, Nottingham NG7 3JE.
The Organ Grinder is the Brewery Tap for the Blue Monkey Brewery, which is based out at Giltbrook. They generally have nine handpumps mostly dispensing Blue Monkey beers with the occasional guest beer. There are also some interesting keg beers for those that do not like cask beers. (??? is there such people ???).
There are some very good pubs around Canning Circus these days, so we shall decide whether to try them all or leave them for another day.
Early note, we are still hopeful of visiting the Star in Beeston before this series ends after being closed for extensive refurbishment. Watch this space for the opening day.

Wednesday 26th March
As the successful Winter Wednesday season draws to an end and we look forward to the Summer Wednesday Series' we've got just this last week to sort out the awards for the Winter Travellers. Many of you have used your discards well and there has been some impressive performances. We have also been encouraged by the addition of quite a few of you just turning up for one or two meetings, when we have visited your locations, we know some of you don't like leaving your winter fires for too long!!
So for this last week we shall be visiting the newly refurbished Star Inn, Middle Street, Beeston. Just dodge all the tram works and you will be sure of 10 real ales in perfect condition. Camra pub of the year 2015???
Watch this space.
See you there or on the water next week.
