Duncan Adams Storms to Regatta Win with Race to Spare

A lovely sunny but breezy day provided very testing conditions for our annual regatta. Wind may have put a few off but numbers were still good due to a number of members of the visiting Wanlip taking part. The first race was won by Duncan Adams in his new Phantom; he quickly pulled away from the fleet helped by a few capsizes amongst the star Supernova sailors. Jon Adams in his Vareo was second from Mike Pritchard and Pete Davies of Wanlip showing a Radial was a good rig for the conditions. A larger fleet started race 2 but again Duncan led from the front and won overall by 90 seconds from Kevin Last and Jon Adams; Kevin winning by 2 seconds using the ASC PYs; would have been 90 seconds on RYA ones. Roger Day and Jill Reid were 4th and 5th. Nick and Ruth Marlow well near the front but went submarining with their spinnaker up and suffered a capsize that led to them retiring. Duncan sat out the final race leaving Jon and Kevin to battle for 2nd and 3rd places overall. Kevin won and unbelievably beat Jon again by only two seconds. Third and fourth places went to Pete Davies and Richard Baker in their Laser Radials.

First overall was Duncan with Kevin Last second and Jon Adams third. A three way tie for 4th between Pete Davies of Wanlip, Mike Pritchard and Roger Day. Richard Baker won the junior prize from Jill Reid.

A big thanks to the race officer crew of Kevin Milton, Gillian Day, Oliver Izzard and Bill Reid and to Wanlip who manned another safety boat.
